Painter, Printmaking, Mixed Mediums

Bob Daniels Headshot.jpg

Robert “Bob” Daniels was born in Mount Vernon, New York, where he attended the public schools and developed an early love of reading. Books sparked his imagination, and those daydreams soon found expression in art. Using pencils and crayons on brown paper grocery bags, he began creating at an early age. Daniels earned awards in both art and athletics throughout his school years. As a high school senior, he won first prize in a countywide art competition for his self-portrait. In 1969, he became the national NAIA high-hurdle champion, setting a school record that still stands today.

A passionate mixed-media contemporary artist, Daniels works across a wide range of materials, tools, and surfaces to express his feelings and vision. Drawing on the rich stories of his Caribbean heritage through his father and his Indigenous heritage through his mother, he creates layered visual narratives rooted in identity and lived experience. He earned a B.A. in Studio Art from Herbert H. Lehman College in the Bronx, with a specialization in printmaking and graphic design, and taught art in the New York City public school system for more than twenty years.

Daniels’s work has been exhibited widely in the United States and internationally. He currently creates and exhibits much of his work in Italy.
